Nigerian Clubs To Receive $100,000 Boost For CAF Inter-Club Competitions.

Four Nigerian football clubs—Remo Stars, Rivers United, Abia Warriors, and Kwara United—are set to receive a significant financial uplift of $100,000 each from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to aid their preparations for the 2025/26 CAF inter-club competitions. This marks a substantial increase from the $50,000 provided to participating clubs last season, reflecting CAF’s commitment to enhancing the quality of its premier tournaments.

Remo Stars and Rivers United, having finished first and second respectively in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), will represent Nigeria in the prestigious CAF Champions League. Meanwhile, Abia Warriors, who secured third place in the NPFL, and Kwara United, winners of the 2025 President Federation Cup, will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup. This financial injection is expected to bolster the clubs’ efforts in strengthening their squads and logistics for the continental stage.

The funding announcement has sparked optimism across Nigerian football circles, with fans and analysts hopeful that the increased support will translate into stronger performances in African competitions. Kwara United’s recent triumph in the President Federation Cup, their first major trophy in the club’s history, has already ignited excitement in Ilorin, with the team now preparing for their first continental appearance since 2000. Similarly, Remo Stars, Rivers United, and Abia Warriors are gearing up to make their mark on the African stage.

This development underscores CAF’s ongoing efforts to elevate the standard of club football across the continent, offering Nigerian teams a chance to compete more effectively against Africa’s footballing powerhouses. As the 2025/26 season approaches, all eyes will be on these four clubs to see how far they can progress in their respective tournaments.
