Nigerians living in the United States have strongly rejected any suggestion of foreign invasion or military intervention in Nigeria, stressing that the nation’s internal issues must be resolved through dialogue and democratic processes.
They said the country’s sovereignty must be respected at all times.
The Nigerians in Diaspora group made the call during a peaceful gathering, urging global powers and organisations not to interfere in Nigeria’s political affairs. They maintained that foreign invasion would only worsen the situation and create instability. One of the organisers said, “No nation should support any form of invasion in Nigeria because it will not bring peace.”
The group appealed to Nigerian leaders to prioritise unity, accountability and conflict resolution to address national challenges. They noted that internal disagreements should not be used as an excuse for foreign intervention. According to them, the focus should be on strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring justice for all citizens.
Participants at the meeting expressed confidence that Nigerians can overcome their current problems if given the opportunity to address them internally. They maintained that external involvement in the form of military invasion has never helped any nation in the long term and should not be considered for Nigeria.
They urged the international community to support Nigeria through peaceful diplomatic engagement, economic cooperation and development initiatives instead of promoting forceful interference. They added that what Nigerians need is support for good governance, economic stability and national security reforms.
The diaspora group called on citizens worldwide to speak with one voice in defence of the country’s unity and territorial integrity. They encouraged Nigerians to remain patriotic and protect the nation’s image by promoting peaceful solutions to internal challenges.
