Nigeria’s Challenges Pre-Date Tinubu’s Administration, Says SGF Akume

Nigeria’s problems did not start with the current administration of President Bola Tinubu, according to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Akume emphasized that President Tinubu has embarked on bold reforms to tackle some of the challenges facing the nation. Speaking at a special service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja, Akume urged Nigerians to support the administration.

“The President needs the support of every Nigerian. What President Bola Tinubu is doing today could have been done 39 years ago. But, I believe that at the end of the tunnel, there is light,” Akume said. He reiterated the commitment of President Tinubu to transforming the nation through critical reforms, citing the removal of fuel subsidy as one of the measures.

Akume emphasized the importance of cooperation among the three arms of government, stating that “each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria that we deserve”. He called for a unified national effort to achieve progress. “We must always cooperate, Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary,” he added.

The SGF’s statement comes as a response to growing criticism of President Tinubu’s administration, with some Nigerians expressing frustration over the country’s economic challenges. However, Akume remains optimistic about the future, citing the potential benefits of the reforms implemented by the President.

Akume’s comments were made during a special service to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary. The event was attended by top government officials, including the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and service chiefs. The SGF emphasized that nation-building is a collective responsibility and urged Nigerians to work together towards a better future.

The President’s commitment to transforming the nation has been evident in his policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy. Akume’s statement is a call to action for Nigerians to support the administration’s efforts to drive progress and development.

As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary, Akume’s message is one of hope and unity. He believes that with collective effort and cooperation, the country can overcome its challenges and achieve greatness. “Each Nigerian has a role in building the Nigeria that we deserve,” he reiterated.
