In a dramatic operation conducted by officers from MOPOL 20 and Maroko Police Station, a notorious gang of kidnappers was dismantled in the Ikeja area of Lagos.
Following hours of intense shootout, nine suspects were apprehended from their hideout situated in the Lekki-Ajah axis of the state.
Reports indicate that the arrested individuals were part of a well-known kidnapping syndicate operating in the Lekki-Ajah region.
Concerns had been raised by residents, prompting numerous complaints to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, regarding the escalating incidents of kidnapping in the area.
During the raid, law enforcement officers seized three Point of Sale (POS) machines believed to be used for extorting ransom money, along with the recovery of 10 mobile phones. A statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, highlighted the police’s commitment to curbing crime and ensuring public safety.
Adejobi further disclosed that recent operations had yielded significant successes. On March 17, 2024, a joint team led by the Commander of PMF 20, Ikeja, rescued three victims and apprehended nine kidnappers, while also recovering additional mobile phones and POS machines.
Similarly, in another operation on March 16, 2024, officers from the Badagry Divisional Headquarters arrested a suspect named Abass Taiwo Hassan, believed to be the leader of a cult gang responsible for the shooting of Adeniyi Adebanjo on February 26, 2024. Hassan confessed to the crime and admitted to leading a six-man cult group.
