Novak Djokovic will face Carlos Alcaraz in Saturday’s men’s singles gold-medal match, a highly anticipated rematch of last month’s Wimbledon final.
Djokovic, who holds a record 24 Grand Slam titles, reached the Olympic final for the first time after defeating Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-2 on Friday. The 37-year-old Serbian has won every major singles title except the Olympics. In contrast to their gruelling five-set match at the French Open two months ago, Djokovic’s win over Musetti was straightforward. He now prepares to face Spanish second seed Alcaraz, who dominated Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the other semi-final on Friday.
