NPFL takes step up to move higher in strongest League Rating, becoming the 7th Best league in Africa.
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), moved up in ranking of men’s football league in Africa by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The IFFHS is an organisation that chronicles the history and records of association football founded in 1974 by Alfredo Poge in Leipzig.
It rates the competitive edge of leagues and for the current rating, the Italian Serie A is global Strongest League while Egypt tops in Africa and rated 20 in the world.
NPFL was rated 77 globally in 2022 after the inception of the Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye led Interim Management Committee (IMC), moved two steps up in 2023 to rate as Africa’s 7th best and four steps to 73 globally.
And while reacting to the latest rating, Elegbeleye who is back in Nigeria from the on-going 34th AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire described it as “very encouraging and a call for us to continue improving at what we have been able to achieve in repositioning the League”.
Egypt ranks first In the latest ranking in Africa, while the Morocco Botola League ranks next and are followed by Algeria, Tunisia, South Africa and Tanzania respectively. Behind Nigeria are Angola, Zambia and Cote D’Ivoire, the only other West African league in the top 10.
The Top 5 Strongest rated Leagues in the world are Italy, the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Brazil’s Serie A, & the German Bundesliga.
