The Nigerian Railway Corporation has announced the resumption of passenger train services on the Abuja Kaduna corridor, effective October 1, 2025.
This decision follows the successful completion of comprehensive safety, technical, and operational checks on the route. According to Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer of NRC, “The Corporation deeply appreciates the patience, cooperation, and understanding of passengers during the suspension period. We remain steadfast in our mission to deliver safe, affordable, and efficient rail transportation that supports national connectivity and economic growth.”
The NRC has prioritized passenger welfare, particularly in light of the August 26, 2025 incident. Out of 583 passengers onboard, 530 were contacted by phone, and 512 have successfully received refunds. Additionally, 22 injured passengers have been contacted and will enjoy one free ride per week until December 31, 2025. All 618 people on board during the accident will be entitled to one free ride before December 31, 2025.
The train schedule for the Abuja Kaduna route is as follows: trains departing from Idu station in Abuja will leave at 8:45 a.m., stopping at Kubwa by 9:05 a.m., and arriving at Rigassa in Kaduna by 12:42 p.m. For the return journey, trains will depart Rigassa at 2:30 p.m., stop at Kubwa at 6:02 p.m., and arrive at Idu by 6:23 p.m.
Every Wednesday has been designated for routine maintenance on the Abuja Kaduna train service to ensure optimal safety and efficiency. The NRC appreciates the patience and understanding of passengers during the suspension period and reaffirms its commitment to providing safe, reliable, affordable, efficient, and more customer-friendly rail transport services nationwide.
