The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended 19 suspected vandals for allegedly tampering with critical national assets and infrastructure in Kano State.

According to the NSCDC State Commandant, Bala Bawa Bodinga, the suspects were caught engaging in unlawful activities such as tampering with electrical installations, communication cables, drainage slabs, and other public utilities.

The arrests were made in Madobi, Tudunwada, Gwale, Minjibir, and Kumbotso Local Government Areas following intelligence led patrols and surveillance. “The arrest followed credible intelligence and swift response by our Area Commands, Divisional Officers and the Department of Operations and Critical National Assets,” Bawa Bodinga said.

The NSCDC Commandant described vandalism as an act of economic sabotage that hampers development and endangers lives. He assured that the corps would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, intensify patrols, and collaborate with sister security agencies to protect national assets.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include rolls of aluminium and armoured cables worth tens of thousands of naira, 6.1kg of transformer cables, two rolls of suck and die, a short spear, rubber solution, a motorcycle, a broken soldering iron, five shovels, five diggers, and a knife.

The suspects have been profiled and will face prosecution after investigation, serving as a deterrent to others. Bawa Bodinga urged residents to assist the corps with timely information to curb crimes and protect public infrastructure.

“We will continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, intensify patrols, and collaborate with sister security agencies, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and the media,” he said. The NSCDC Commandant emphasized that the corps would not relent in its duty to protect lives, property, and infrastructure for the overall peace and development of the state.

The NSCDC’s efforts to apprehend vandals demonstrate its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure. The commandant’s warning to vandals is clear: the NSCDC will not tolerate acts of economic sabotage that endanger lives and hamper development.
