The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has issued a pressing call to President Bola Tinubu, urging immediate measures to curtail the escalating cost of governance.
The plea also includes a demand for the identification and apprehension of those implicated in the fuel subsidy scam.
National President of NULGE, Ambali Hakeem, delivered this appeal in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, on Friday.
The call followed a recent event where Hakeem also urged the government to explore alternative energy sources in light of the surging petrol costs.
Hakeem emphasised that while streamlining governance expenses was crucial, President Tinubu should not overlook the necessity of apprehending individuals or groups allegedly responsible for syphoning significant funds from the fuel subsidy scheme.
Highlighting the urgency, the NULGE leader stressed the importance of assembling experts to develop solar and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueled vehicles as alternatives to diesel, petrol, and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Such innovations would serve to mitigate the impacts of petrol subsidy removal on the Nigerian population.
