Obidient Movement Urges Jonathan To Step Down For Peter Obi In 2027

The Obidient Movement, a group of supporters of Peter Obi, has urged former President Goodluck Jonathan to step down in favor of Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

This call comes after a closed-door meeting between Obi and Jonathan on September 11, where they discussed the state of the nation and potential strategies for a unified opposition front.

The Obidient Movement believes Jonathan should maintain his elder statesman status and support Obi, citing Obi’s popularity among millions of Nigerians seeking a new direction. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, emphasized that while both men are respected leaders, Obi is the preferred candidate for many Nigerians. He added that Jonathan’s support for Obi would be a great step towards national progress and fairness.

The meeting between Obi and Jonathan is part of efforts by opposition leaders to form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu in the next general election. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly considering Obi or Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. After their meeting, Obi described Jonathan as his leader, statesman, and elder brother, but didn’t mention if their discussion touched on the 2027 presidential election.
