Obidients Outline Expectations For New INEC Chairman Amupitan

The Obidient Movement has congratulated Professor Joash Amupitan on his appointment as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), describing his selection as a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s electoral system.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the movement highlighted its expectations for Professor Amupitan’s leadership, emphasizing the need to strengthen the credibility, transparency, and fairness of upcoming elections. The statement underlined the importance of reforms as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.

Signed by Dr. Yunusa Tanko, National Coordinator, and Nana Kazaure, Director of Strategic Communications and Media, the statement called for the introduction of a new electoral act aimed at promoting free and fair elections across all levels of governance. “We hope that under Professor Amupitan, INEC will deliver elections that are transparent, credible, and acceptable to all Nigerians,” the statement said.

The Obidient Movement also extended its best wishes to the new INEC Chairman, praying for divine guidance and protection as he navigates the responsibilities of the office. They urged him to use his tenure to create a lasting impact on Nigeria’s democratic processes.

It further stressed that this period offers an opportunity for INEC to set a significant milestone in the country’s electoral history, particularly in addressing long-standing issues that have affected public confidence in elections.

The movement concluded by calling on Nigerians to support efforts aimed at strengthening the electoral process and encouraged stakeholders to collaborate in ensuring credible, transparent, and timely elections. “A new era of electoral integrity is possible, and we urge all parties to work constructively towards this goal,” the statement added.
