Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has announced ambitious plans to construct approximately 10,000 housing units before the conclusion of his tenure. The Governor revealed that over 4,000 houses have already been erected across the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by Mr. Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Governor Abiodun emphasized the government’s commitment to providing shelter despite the challenges posed by the high cost of building materials.
“We have built around 4,000 affordable houses within four years, and the construction is ongoing. By the time my tenure ends, we aim to have constructed approximately 10,000 houses,” stated Governor Abiodun.
Highlighting specific initiatives, the Governor mentioned the successful completion and sale of medium and upper-income houses, equipped with essential amenities such as infrastructure, water, and internet facilities. He also outlined plans for the development of the “Civil Servants Village,” spanning 50 hectares, aimed at enabling state workers to purchase land and build their homes.
Recognizing the importance of trust in government-citizen relations regarding housing delivery, Governor Abiodun acknowledged past challenges where estates built by predecessors became occupied by miscreants due to mismatched designs with community needs. He emphasized consultation as a key aspect of successful housing projects.
Governor Abiodun underscored the significance of housing in employment generation and its alignment with Sustainable Development Goals. He pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to provide affordable housing and proposed establishing an online platform for Nigerians in the diaspora to acquire property in Ogun State and monitor development remotely.
Furthermore, Governor Abiodun assured the FHA delegation of sharing the state’s experiences in housing delivery to aid in beneficial decision-making. He also committed to providing land across the state for federal housing projects.
The governor’s commitment to housing development reflects a broader governmental strategy to address the housing needs of Ogun State residents and contribute to national housing objectives.
