The Ogun State Government has commenced a free surgery program for indigent residents in order to alleviate the effects of the prevailing harsh economic conditions.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Afolabi Dosunmu, aims to provide essential medical assistance to those in need.
Dr. Dosunmu, speaking at the launch event held at the State Hospital, Ijaye, Abeokuta, stated that the program was a directive from Governor Dapo Abiodun to offer relief to the people during challenging times. He assured residents that hospitals across the state are fully prepared to carry out the governor’s directive.
Under the program, eligible residents can walk into any state or general hospital and enroll in the insurance scheme, regardless of their surgical need. Once assessed by medical professionals, those requiring immediate surgery will undergo the necessary procedures, with ongoing support provided for post-operative care.
Addressing the scope of the initiative, Dr. Dosunmu outlined the enrollment targets, including 20,000 pregnant women, 20,000 market women, and 30,000 other individuals in need. He underscored the inclusivity of the program, stating that anyone requiring surgery in the state is encouraged to avail themselves of the opportunity.
Furthermore, Dr. Dosunmu applauded Governor Abiodun’s commitment to directly impacting the lives of residents through the provision of free medical services. He stated that from enrollment and screening to tests, surgery, and post-operative care, everything is provided at no cost to the beneficiaries.
