The Gateway International Airport in Ogun State is set to commence commercial flights on October 7, 2025, in partnership with ValueJet airline.
According to Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, “Excitement is in the air as Value Jet airlines is scheduled to begin two flights per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Gateway International Airport (GWI), Ogun State, beginning from Thursday, October 7, 2025”.
ValueJet will operate two weekly flights between Gateway International Airport and Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The flight schedule includes departures from GWI at 8:30 AM, arriving in Abuja at 9:45 AM, and return flights from Abuja at 4:00 PM, arriving at GWI at 5:15 PM. Tickets are already available for purchase online through ValueJet’s website, travel agents, and ticket counters at the airport.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has praised the airport for its modern facilities and operational readiness, describing it as “a model for future aviation infrastructure in Nigeria”. Governor Dapo Abiodun said the airport’s certification is a “historic milestone not only for Ogun State but for Nigeria”, highlighting its potential to boost trade, investment, and tourism in the region.
The airport’s launch is expected to provide faster connectivity for business travelers and residents of Ogun State and its environs. According to Capt. Omololu Majekodunmi, Managing Director of ValueJet, “Our operations from Gateway International Airport mark a milestone not just for the airline but for Ogun State as well. We look forward to connecting more Nigerians through this modern facility”.
The Gateway International Airport has a 4,000-metre-long and 60-metre-wide runway, capable of handling wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350. A global logistics firm has committed to operating two weekly cargo flights from London to the airport, further enhancing its economic potential.
The commencement of commercial flights at Gateway International Airport underscores Ogun State’s commitment to infrastructure development, economic growth, and regional integration. The airport is poised to emerge as a viable aviation hub in southwest Nigeria, complementing facilities in Lagos and Ibadan.
With the start of commercial flights, Gateway International Airport is set to become a critical link for both passenger travel and cargo logistics, providing much-needed relief to travelers who previously relied on congested airports in Lagos and Ibadan.
