Omisore Throws Hat Into Osun 2026 Governorship Ring

Senator Iyiola Omisore, a former deputy governor of Osun State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially declared his interest in the 2026 governorship election.

Omisore made the announcement on his X handle, stating that his decision followed deep reflection and wide consultations.

Omisore’s formal declaration will take place on October 7, 2025, at the APC Secretariat in Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo. The event will have the theme “Fix the Broken, Restore Our Dreams”. His campaign aims to restore hope, strengthen governance, and deliver a brighter future for the people of Osun State.

The senator has a long history in Osun politics, having served as deputy governor from 1999 to 2003 and senator representing Osun East from 2003 to 2011. He previously contested the 2014 governorship election on the PDP platform and lost. Omisore later joined the APC in 2021 and rose to the position of National Secretary.

“I believe strongly that together, we can restore hope, strengthen governance, and deliver a brighter future for every son and daughter of Osun,” Omisore said. His entry into the race is expected to make him one of the leading aspirants for the party’s governorship ticket.

Omisore’s declaration sets the stage for a potential fierce primary within the APC. The party will need to navigate the complex dynamics of the race and ensure a smooth process that produces a strong candidate for the 2026 governorship election.

As the political landscape in Osun State continues to evolve, one thing is certain: the 2026 governorship election will be a closely watched contest. Omisore’s declaration is a significant development in the lead-up to the election.
