Ondo Assembly Workers Suspend Planned Strike After Truce With Government

The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Ondo State chapter, has called off its planned strike after a successful intervention by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The governor approved the implementation of the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) for legislative workers in the state, a move that ended the threat of industrial action. PASAN had issued a seven-day ultimatum, which expired on Monday, October 20, 2025, demanding immediate adoption of the salary scale.

In a statement released in Akure, PASAN Chairperson Mrs. Hellen Olorunfemi thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for his prompt approval. She stated that the governor had directed the Head of Service and other relevant officials to prepare the necessary implementation table without delay. “This development will bring much-needed relief to the parliamentary staff of Ondo State,” she said.

Olorunfemi also noted that Ondo had been the only state in the South-West yet to implement CONLESS, prompting the planned strike. She highlighted that other states, such as Lagos, had long adopted the structure and expressed satisfaction that Ondo was finally joining the initiative. She also commended the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Chief Olamide Oladiji, for his steadfast support throughout the advocacy.

The PASAN Chairperson lauded the collaborative effort between the executive and legislative arms of government in achieving a peaceful resolution. She emphasized that dialogue and cooperation between government bodies and labor unions are crucial in addressing workers’ concerns and maintaining industrial harmony.

With the governor’s directive already being executed by the office of the Accountant General, PASAN officially suspended its planned strike. The association pledged to continue working closely with the government to ensure the welfare of its members and the smooth functioning of the legislative arm.

This development highlights the importance of timely government intervention and effective communication with labor unions in resolving industrial disputes. It reinforces the need for cooperation to maintain a harmonious working environment and prevent disruptions to governance.
