The Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Oyelude Makama, has described the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, as a true symbol of unity and strength among Yoruba traditional rulers, as he marked his 51st birthday on Friday.
In a congratulatory message, Oba Makama commended the Ooni for his continuous efforts to promote peace, harmony, and cultural preservation across Yorubaland. He praised Ogunwusi for his dedication to repositioning traditional institutions and ensuring that the Yoruba heritage remains a source of pride and unity.
According to the Olowu, “Ooni Ogunwusi has remained a rallying point for traditional rulers in the Southwest. Despite challenges and provocations, he has maintained his dignity and commitment to his divine calling as a leader and cultural custodian.”
The monarch also lauded the Ooni’s leadership during the recent traditional rulers’ meeting in Lagos, where he championed the inclusion of traditional leaders such as Kabiyesis, Obis, Emirs, and Etsu Nupes in national governance and cultural development discussions.
Oba Makama further noted that Ooni Ogunwusi’s calmness and wisdom have earned him the respect of both young and old, adding that his engagement with the youth has helped instill in them a deeper appreciation for tradition and nation-building.
Extending his goodwill, the Olowu prayed for the Ooni’s continued good health, wisdom, and longevity. “On behalf of my Oloris, the Olowu-in-Council, and the people of Kuta, I wish the Ooni of Ife more fruitful years and enduring grace as he continues to promote Yoruba culture and unity,” he said.
