Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially approved a bill introducing a new emblem for the state, citing it as a herald of rejuvenation for Osun.
The bill signing event, attended by Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Adewale Egbedun, marked the adoption of the new symbol.
According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the new logo embodies various elements representing Osun’s essence and unity. The circle replaces the shield, symbolizing perfection and unity, while the “Y” shape signifies the amalgamation of Osun’s three Senatorial districts.
Key features of the new emblem include representations of the Osun River, brown agricultural soil, and mountains, emblematic of the state’s fertility, natural beauty, and spiritual heritage. The Ori Olokun, representing the common origin of the Yoruba people, and rays of light symbolizing enlightenment and progress, are also incorporated.
Governor Adeleke expressed his delight in signing the bill, emphasising the significance of the new emblem in reflecting Osun’s history, values, and traditions. He highlighted its educational value for younger generations and its potential as a marketing tool for the state, both domestically and internationally.
The introduction of the new emblem follows the repeal of the State Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law 2012 by the Osun State House of Assembly in July 2023. Governor Adeleke’s endorsement of the new logo is seen as a step towards ushering in a new era of prosperity, abundance, and sustainability for the people of Osun State and beyond.
