The Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has praised the people of the Niger Delta region for their peaceful conduct during nationwide protests, emphasizing the need to prevent unrest from escalating further.
Led by Chief Edwin Clark, PANDEF acknowledged the efforts of ethnic youth leaders, community-based organizations, civil society groups, activists, ex-agitators, and youths for maintaining calm amidst recent demonstrations across the country.
In a statement released on Friday by Dr. Ken Robinson, PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary, the forum urged protesters in some states of the Niger Delta to cease their demonstrations to safeguard against potential infiltration by criminal elements. This call comes in the wake of reports of vandalism, looting, and tragic loss of lives in various parts of Nigeria.
“The leadership of Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, commends the people of the Niger Delta region, especially leaders of ethnic youth organizations, community-based and civil society groups, as well as activists, ex-agitators, and youths in general, for maintaining peace in the Niger Delta region in the face of the nationwide protests.”
He said they acknowledged that their voices have been heard loud and clear and it is important to prevent any disruptions that could undermine the relative peace we have maintained.
While acknowledging the grievances expressed by demonstrators, PANDEF appealed to governments at all levels to swiftly address the socio-economic challenges faced by citizens.
