Paris 2024 Olympics: Twelve Africans Get Selected Amongst 89 Match Officials For The Tournament

Africa Makes Fair Share Representation with Twelve Match Officials Selected for Paris 2024 Olympics Football Tournament

 

As the excitement builds for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, the FIFA Referees Committee has made a significant announcement, appointing match officials from various parts of the globe, notably showcasing Africa’s strong presence despite Nigerian referees being excluded once again.

 





Among the 89 officials chosen for the prestigious tournament, twelve hail from Africa, underscoring the region’s expertise and valuable contribution to international football.

 

The women’s football competition is scheduled to kick off on July 25, 2024, and culminate on August 10, 2024, featuring the gold medal match at Parc des Princes in Paris. Likewise, the men’s tournament will commence on July 24, 2024, with the final showdown also set at Parc des Princes on August 9, 2024.

 

These selected FIFA technical trainers, comprising referees and VAR instructors, will subject the African match officials to rigorous training and provide continuous supervision and support throughout the Olympic Games. An array of support personnel including match analysts, fitness trainers, physiotherapists, and sports scientists will also be on hand to offer guidance and assistance to the officials.

 

The inclusion of these African match officials underscores the abundance of officiating talent on the continent and their readiness to officiate on the grand stage of international football.

 

The appointed match officials view the Paris 2024 Olympic Football Tournaments as a pivotal stepping stone as they progress towards significant events like the FIFA World Cup 2026TM and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027.

 

The African referees for the competition include BEIDA Dahane from Mauritania, ISMAIL Mahmood Ali M. from Sudan, and KARBOUBI Bouchra from Morocco, among others, in various roles such as assistant referees and video match officials.

 

These officials carry with them the aspirations and aspirations of their nations and continent, aiming to uphold quality and fairness as they prepare to officiate at the Olympic Football Tournaments in Paris in 2024.
