A passenger was arrested on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Abuja after allegedly stealing N290,000 from a fellow traveller shortly before takeoff.
The incident happened around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, when a foreign passenger discovered that his cash, kept inside his hand luggage in the overhead compartment, had disappeared.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim raised an alarm that led the cabin crew to search passengers and their belongings. During the investigation, another traveller claimed to have seen the suspect tampering with the foreigner’s bag.
The suspect initially denied any involvement, but a more thorough search later revealed the missing money hidden in his socks and under his seat. This discovery caused commotion among passengers, prompting immediate intervention by flight attendants.
Airport security personnel were called in to handle the situation, and the suspect was escorted off the aircraft for questioning. The flight later continued to Abuja after the matter was resolved.
As of press time, Ibom Air had not released an official statement regarding the incident.
