PDP Board Of Trustees Issues Communique Decrying Economic Hardship And Insecurity Under APC Administration

In a decisive move reflecting growing concerns over the state of the nation, the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) convened its 76th meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. In a comprehensive assessment, the BoT addressed pressing issues affecting Nigeria and the Party, resulting in a resolute communique.

The communiqué outlined a series of profound concerns regarding the economic and security challenges gripping the nation. The BoT expressed deep distress over the pervasive economic hardship, soaring costs of essential commodities, and alarming food scarcity, attributing these issues to what it described as “ill-implemented policies” of the current APC administration

. Moreover, the BoT condemned the escalating insecurity marked by mass killings, banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism, which it attributed to the government’s perceived lackadaisical approach to security matters.

Of particular concern was the BoT’s condemnation of corruption within the APC administration, highlighting alleged misappropriation of funds designated for palliative measures. Economic indicators such as the plummeting value of the Naira, exorbitant fuel prices exceeding N700 per liter, and persistent inflation and unemployment rates further compounded the nation’s woes, according to the communique.

The BoT underscored the gravity of these challenges, emphasizing their detrimental impact on the populace, driving millions into poverty and prompting an exodus of skilled professionals and multinational corporations. It called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently address these issues, warning that the nation’s stability and survival were at stake.

Despite these daunting circumstances, the PDP affirmed its unity and commitment to serving the interests of Nigerians. The BoT rallied party members, urging cohesion and focus as the PDP strategizes for the future.

In a move to reinforce its leadership, the BoT confirmed Senator Adolphus Wabara as Chairman and Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi as Secretary, aligning with the provisions of the PDP Constitution as amended in 2017.

The communiqué signals a robust stance by the PDP in response to what it perceives as critical challenges facing Nigeria, setting the stage for intensified political engagement in the coming months.
