The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for a legal framework to mandate the electronic transmission of election results, stressing that it will resist any attempts to undermine the will of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, cited past electoral challenges and insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must ensure real-time results transmission directly from polling units.
“There must be no glitches in 2027. If technology can support seamless financial transactions nationwide, INEC must ensure its election technology works effectively on election day,” Ologunagba said. He emphasised that credible polls rely on transparency and accuracy, urging INEC to guarantee a process where “every vote counts, and every vote is seen to count.”
Ologunagba noted that the necessary infrastructure already exists for smooth electronic results transmission and warned that any failure could cast doubts on election integrity. “Votes must count and be counted. Democracy can only thrive if INEC guarantees real-time transmission of results to prevent manipulation,” he added.
He further warned against premature campaigns, stressing that such actions could overheat the political environment and strain INEC’s regulatory capacity.
On preparations for the party’s national convention in Ibadan on November 15-16, 2025, Ologunagba said mobilisation was ongoing, with 11 subcommittees handling logistics, security, media, and other areas to ensure a seamless event. He added that zoning arrangements for national offices had been approved, while regional structures were finalising micro-zoning plans.
“The rescue and restoration of true democratic principles can only come through the PDP. Our convention will produce a united party ready to offer credible alternatives to Nigerians,” he said, commending party leaders for their commitment and resilience.
