Nigerian rapper Phyno has praised the current generation of parents for encouraging their children’s talents, unlike his own parents’ generation.
In a recent interview, Phyno shared his personal experience, revealing that his parents initially didn’t support his music career. “My parents didn’t support my career at first, but it’s different now,” he said.
Phyno highlighted the contrast between past and present, noting that children were often punished for pursuing their passions. “Back then, parents would beat you and seize your belongings for playing music or sports.”
Today’s parents, however, recognize and nurture their children’s gifts. “Now, parents enroll their kids in music or sports academies, and some even buy footballs for their one-year-olds, encouraging them to become the next Neymar.”
Phyno acknowledged the shift in perception surrounding creative careers. “Different generations have different perspectives. My parents’ generation saw music as unprofitable and associated it with negativity. But now, everyone recognizes the talent and gift that music brings.”
He concluded, “Shout-out to this era of parents who support their children’s talents and passions.”
