The Management of Plateau University, Bokkos, has denied allegations suggesting the National Universities Commission (NUC) was contemplating the closure of the institution.
In a statement issued by Mr. Yakubu Ayuba, the Registrar of the University, on Sunday in Jos, the university refuted claims made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the NUC’s purported plans.
The APC, through its acting Publicity Secretary in Plateau, Mr. Shittu Bamaiyi, had alleged that the NUC intended to shut down the university and withdraw its certificate of recognition and accreditation due to alleged government interference in university management.
However, the registrar dismissed these claims as false, misleading, and politically motivated, emphasizing that the university’s academic activities remain unaffected by external influences.
Ayuba clarified that Plateau University continues to operate smoothly, with the resolution of recent issues between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the government. He assured stakeholders that admissions into approved undergraduate and postgraduate programs by the NUC are ongoing, and the university population exceeds 10,000 students.
Contrary to allegations, Ayuba confirmed that the university has not terminated any staff appointments, including those in newly established departments.
Ayuba has reassured students, parents, staff, stakeholders, potential students, and the general public that there are no underlying concerns in the relationship between Plateau University and the NUC.
