The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has initiated a discreet investigation into the killing of Arise TV journalist Somtochukwu Maduagwu.
She was tragically killed during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, on Monday, September 29, 2025. Commissioner of Police CP Ajao Adewale described the act as “cruel and senseless” with no place in a sane society.
The police command is committed to ensuring justice is served and has deployed intelligence and operational assets to identify and apprehend those responsible. “The FCT Police Command commiserates deeply with the bereaved family and the media community and pledges that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement added.
Maduagwu, a 29-year-old news anchor, reporter, and producer, was remembered by her colleagues as a vibrant voice who engaged and connected with viewers. Arise News Channel described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family” and “a vibrant voice that engaged and connected with our viewers”.
The management of Arise News Channel extended its deepest condolences to Maduagwu’s parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. They called for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.
