Police Strengthen Security Following Killings Of Farmers In Edo.
The Edo State Police Command has intensified security measures following the tragic killing of two farmers in Okpekpe, Etsako East Local Government Area. The victims, identified as Batemue Philip Ebo and Christopher Bello, were reportedly attacked by suspected herdsmen while on their way to the farm on Monday.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that the attack was reported by the Chief of Okpekpe at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
“The command received a report today at about 0900hrs from the Chief of Okpekpe that two of his subjects were attacked and killed in their farms by suspected herdsmen,” Yamu said.
In response, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and mobile police officers stationed in Uzanu were swiftly deployed to the scene, where they discovered the lifeless bodies of the victims.
Following the attack, the police have reassessed security strategies in the area to track down the perpetrators and prevent further incidents.
“Security arrangements in the area have been reviewed to go after the criminals and forestall reoccurrence,” Yamu assured.
The attack comes just days after 23 farmers were reportedly killed in a separate assault on farming settlements in Ovia South West Local Government Area, raising concerns over increasing insecurity in rural communities.
Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the safety of farmers, whose contributions to food production remain vital. Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies as efforts to apprehend the attackers continue.
