Senator Ned Nwoko has stated that politics in Nigeria must be open and accessible to every citizen rather than limited to a privileged few.
He said true leadership is measured by the willingness to serve and contribute to national development for the benefit of the people.
Speaking in Abuja during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, Nwoko called on political leaders to embrace a more inclusive approach to governance. He stressed that leaders must begin to think creatively and implement policies that genuinely improve the lives of Nigerians. According to him, “My political ideals and actions align with the need to break down walls of exclusive politics, promoting inclusive governance that delivers justice, development and true dividends for all residents.”
The senator who chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation reflected on his two year journey in the Senate. He explained that his experience has shaped his legislative priorities, ensuring that his bills address key challenges affecting citizens and the nation’s long term progress. “I take pride in highlighting the sponsorship of 34 transformative bills that speak directly to the needs of Nigerians and the future of our nation,” he said.
Among the bills he sponsored is the Constitutional Alteration Bill seeking the creation of Anioma State. Others include the Nigerian Youth Entrepreneurship Grant Programme Bill and the Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency Bill, which aim to boost youth empowerment and enhance public health standards.
Nwoko also highlighted his bill on the One Month Rent Limitation and Landlord Registry Act which seeks to cap advance rent payment at one month for specified residential properties while establishing a national tenancy registry. He said the bill is designed to promote fairness, transparency and tenant protection. He added that he has also pushed for the Electoral Courts Establishment Act, the Compulsory Professional Indemnity Act and the Cashless Asset Acquisition Act.
