Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes Wins Appeal Against Red Card.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has successfully avoided a three-match ban following the club’s appeal against his red card in Sunday’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.
The 30-year-old midfielder was initially sent off for a foul on Spurs’ James Maddison in the 42nd minute at Old Trafford, a decision that could have ruled him out of upcoming Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford, and West Ham. Fernandes was shown a straight red card after appearing to catch Maddison with a raised leg.
United, however, lodged an appeal, arguing that the dismissal was incorrect. The appeal was upheld, allowing Fernandes to remain available for selection in the forthcoming matches. Speaking after the game, Fernandes expressed his belief that the red card was harsh, saying, “Never a red card – that is my view. I agree it is a foul, but I didn’t touch him with the studs or even the foot; it was my ankle.”
Despite the sending-off, Manchester United were already trailing 1-0 and eventually suffered a 3-0 defeat, marking their third league loss of the season. Erik ten Hag’s side now turn their attention to their Europa League clash against Porto on Thursday before returning to Premier League action against Aston Villa on Sunday.
With Fernandes cleared to play, United will be hoping to bounce back from their recent form and avoid further setbacks.
