Erling Haaland Aims for Consecutive Premier League Player of the Season Award
Manchester City’s prolific striker Erling Haaland finds himself in contention for the Premier League Player of the Season award for a second year running. The 23-year-old Norwegian star, who had a phenomenal season, is among the top nominees alongside teammate Phil Foden.
Other notable players in the race for this prestigious award include Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice from Arsenal, Cole Palmer from Chelsea, Alexander Isak from Newcastle, Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, and Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool.
The winner, determined through a combination of public voting and evaluation by a Premier League panel, is set to be announced on May 18th.
Haaland made history last year by becoming the first player to clinch both the Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards, thanks to his remarkable tally of 36 goals in 35 league appearances.
This season, he has continued his stellar form, netting 25 goals as Manchester City strives for a record-breaking fourth consecutive title.
The only player to achieve back-to-back Player of the Season awards is former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, who did so in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.
Phil Foden, who recently earned recognition as the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, is also a strong contender for the accolade. Foden has contributed significantly to City’s success this season with 16 league goals and eight assists.
The Premier League has witnessed outstanding performances from several players across various clubs, with Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice standing out for their pivotal roles in Arsenal’s campaign.
The competition for the Player of the Season award reflects the high level of talent and performance seen throughout the league this season. The announcement on May 18th will reveal who among these exceptional players will be crowned as the Premier League’s best for the 2023-2024 season.
