The Office of the President has debunked claims that President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to the United States on Tuesday for a meeting with U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
The clarification was issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, who described the report as misleading.
Ajayi stated that the article circulating online, particularly on social media, is “fake news” and urged Nigerians to rely only on verified sources for updates on the President’s activities. He said the report had sparked “uninformed commentaries” and warned against the spread of misinformation.
The SSA further clarified that should President Tinubu plan a visit to the White House, it would not involve a meeting with a Vice President. He emphasised that official engagements and diplomatic trips are always formally announced through appropriate government channels.
The Presidency’s statement comes in response to growing speculation online, fueled by posts on Twitter, suggesting that the President was embarking on a diplomatic mission to Washington, D.C. Ajayi reiterated that no such trip is scheduled at this time.
Officials also highlighted that unverified reports can cause confusion and unnecessary concern among the public. They advised media outlets and citizens to cross-check information before sharing or publishing claims regarding the President’s engagements abroad.
The Office of the President concluded by assuring Nigerians that any official foreign visit by President Tinubu will be communicated transparently and through formal announcements, dismissing all claims of a planned meeting with the U.S. Vice President as baseless.
