President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Temitope Ilori as the new and first female Director General of the National Agency For The Control of AIDS (NACA).

In a press statement issued by Toyin Aderibigbe, the Head of Public Relations and Protocol of NACA, Dr. Ilori officially assumed her role on February 22, 2024, succeeding Dr. Gambo Aliyu, who served as DG from June 2019 to February 2024.

With her background in medicine and public health, Dr. Ilori brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Prior to her appointment, she served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Community Medicine at the University of Ibadan and as a Consultant Family Physician at the University College Hospital in Ibadan.

Having obtained her MBBS degree from the University of Ibadan and completing her residency training at the University College Hospital, Dr. Ilori has demonstrated exceptional academic prowess.

She graduated as the best graduating Fellow of the Faculty of Family Medicine, West African College of Physicians, and holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Ibadan.

Furthermore, Dr. Ilori’s dedication to research and policy development is evident through her numerous publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Her research interests encompass primary care, immunization, public health nutrition, non-communicable diseases, and women’s and child’s health.

Her previous roles as Commissioner for Health in Osun State and Chairperson of the Osun State Agency on Control of HIV/AIDS reflect her commitment to advancing healthcare initiatives at both the state and national levels.
