President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed Mrs. Zubaida Umar as the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Umar takes over from Mustapha Ahmed, who was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2021.
The Presidency, through a statement issued by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Tinubu, emphasized that Umar’s appointment underscores the President’s commitment to gender inclusivity. Umar brings with her over two decades of experience in Human Resources, Finance, and Administration.
A member of esteemed professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Credit Administration, Umar holds ACCA certifications in Public Financial Management and Digital & Sustainability Financing.
Notably, as the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services at the Federal Mortgage Bank, Umar played a pivotal role in modernizing and digitizing the institution, turning it into a contemporary mortgage and financial service provider.
President Tinubu expects Umar to instill financial and operational discipline within NEMA, reshaping the agency into a performance-oriented and proactive emergency response entity.
The focus will be on prevention and readiness for climate change challenges in carrying out NEMA’s core mandate, as articulated by Ngelale.
