President Tinubu Approves Key Appointments To Drive Nigeria’s Development Agenda.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a series of high-profile appointments to lead critical institutions across Nigeria, signalling a renewed commitment to advancing policy, sports, gender equality, and economic development. The appointments, announced by the Presidency, draw from a diverse pool of experienced leaders from various regions, ensuring broad representation and expertise in key sectors.

The appointees, hailing from states including Enugu, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Ebonyi, Kogi, Borno, Yobe, and Nasarawa, will take up strategic roles in institutions pivotal to Nigeria’s socio-economic growth. Below is a detailed overview of the new appointments:

Senator Ken Nnamani (Enugu) – Appointed as Chairman of the Nigerian Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Senator Nnamani, a former Senate President, brings a wealth of legislative and policy expertise to steer the institute’s research and training initiatives, which are crucial for shaping national development strategies.

H.E. Philip Shaibu (Edo) – Named Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Sports, Shaibu, a former Deputy Governor, is expected to revitalise sports development, fostering talent and promoting Nigeria’s presence on the global sporting stage.

Omobolanle Akinyemi Obe (Ondo) – As the new Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre in Abuja, Obe will lead efforts to enhance the welfare and social inclusion of Nigeria’s elderly population, aligning with the government’s focus on vulnerable groups.

Dr. Segun Aina (Osun) – Appointed Director-General of the Academic Staff College of Nigeria, Dr. Aina’s role will focus on strengthening the capacity of academic staff, a critical component in elevating Nigeria’s educational standards.

Senator Anyim Pius Anyim (Ebonyi) – As Chairman of the National Merit Award Committee, Senator Anyim, a former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, will oversee the recognition of outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s development.

Mr. Ayodele Olufemi (Kogi) – Appointed Executive Director (Monitoring and Implementation) of the Nigeria–São Tomé Joint Development Authority, Olufemi will play a key role in managing joint economic projects, particularly in the oil and gas sector.

Babaranti Ayandayo Rasheed (Osun) – Named Executive Director (Finance and Administration) of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), Rasheed’s expertise will bolster agricultural risk management, supporting farmers and food security initiatives.

Hon. (Dr.) Asabe Vilita Bashir (Borno) – Appointed Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development, Dr. Bashir will drive policies to empower women and promote gender equality across Nigeria.

Senator Jalo Zarami (Yobe) – As Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission, Senator Zarami will contribute to accurate demographic data collection, essential for national planning.

Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu (Nasarawa) – Also appointed as a Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission, Dr. Kigbu will support efforts to improve census and population management systems.

Momoh Jibril (Kogi) – Appointed as a Board Member of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), Jibril will help advance affordable housing initiatives, a priority for addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit.

The appointments have been widely praised for their inclusivity, drawing from a broad spectrum of Nigeria’s geopolitical zones. Analysts suggest that President Tinubu’s selections reflect a strategic intent to leverage experienced leaders to address pressing national challenges, from education and sports to agriculture and housing.

The Presidency noted that these appointments take effect immediately, with the appointees expected to assume their roles swiftly to drive impactful change. Nigerians across the country will be watching closely as these leaders work to deliver on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at fostering economic growth, social inclusion, and sustainable development.
