President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given the green light for the phased establishment of four colleges of education to be transformed into federal universities of education.
The decision also includes the approval of two federal universities of Agriculture, two federal universities of Medical and Health Sciences, and the addition of five colleges of education to the educational landscape.
This announcement was conveyed in a statement issued by the Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, Obialor-Dur Augustina Okechi. The move is in alignment with the current administration’s commitment to ensuring a seamless transition in governance and maintaining policy consistency.
The newly sanctioned institutions, for which the establishment process is set to commence promptly, encompass the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale, Delta State, and the Federal University of Agriculture in Mubi, Adamawa State.
Furthermore, the transformation of colleges of education into federal universities of education involves the Adeyemi College of Education in Ondo, Ondo State, and Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education in Owerri, Imo State.
In addition to these conversions, the president has also given his approval for the establishment of new colleges of education. These include the Federal College of Education in Ilawe Ekiti, Ekiti State, the Federal College of Education in Ididep, Ibiono, Akwa Ibom State, and the Federal College of Education (Technical) in Yauri, Kebbi State. This initiative signals a commitment to expanding and enhancing the educational infrastructure in Nigeria.
“The establishment and conversion of these institutions is a further demonstration of President Tinubu’s Education for the Renewed Hope Agenda and will help in improving access to tertiary education in the country,” she said.
