In a meeting with National Assembly leaders on Monday evening, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emphasized the need for a change in Nigeria’s value system to overcome the country’s economic and security challenges.
The delegation, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, visited the President to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
President Tinubu condemned acts of sabotage, such as vandalizing rail tracks and stealing electric cables, urging citizens to adopt a more productive and patriotic mindset.
He acknowledged the nation’s challenges, including poverty, suffering, banditry, and terrorism, expressing his determination to address these issues.
“Good economics at a harsh time is the challenge that we must face,” Tinubu stated, reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria despite the difficulties ahead.
The President praised the National Assembly’s leadership for their support, which he credited for recent developments in his administration. He stressed the importance of inclusive governance and facing the country’s challenges head-on.
Tinubu highlighted the need to address security issues to improve agricultural productivity and emphasized the importance of good infrastructure for food distribution. “If you do not have good roads to bring the food to the population, even if you grow the food and you are losing 60-70 percent to damages, you will pay the price,” he said.
Senate President Akpabio, speaking to journalists after the meeting, revealed that the National Assembly plans to review existing legislation to improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
Following the meeting with the National Assembly delegation, President Tinubu met with the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, further demonstrating his engagement with both legislative leadership and traditional rulers in addressing Nigeria’s pressing issues.
