President Tinubu Embarks On Diplomatic Mission To Japan And Brazil.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Thursday, 14 August 2025, for a significant two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The announcement, made by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening economic ties and fostering international cooperation.

In Japan, President Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama from 20 to 22 August. The conference, themed “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” will focus on driving economic transformation, enhancing business environments through private investment, and promoting sustainable development across the continent. Tinubu is expected to participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks with Japanese officials, and engage with chief executives of Japanese companies investing in Nigeria. TICAD, established in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the United Nations, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, serves as a vital platform for high-level policy dialogue between African leaders and global partners.

Following the conference, the President will travel to Brasilia, Brazil, for a two-day state visit from 24 to 25 August, at the invitation of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The visit will include bilateral discussions aimed at deepening Nigeria-Brazil relations, as well as a business forum with Brazilian investors to explore new trade and investment opportunities. Accompanied by key ministers and senior officials, Tinubu will seek to formalise agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation between the two nations.

This diplomatic mission reflects Nigeria’s proactive approach to fostering economic growth and global partnerships. By engaging with major economies like Japan and Brazil, President Tinubu aims to attract investment and advance Nigeria’s development agenda, building on the momentum of recent domestic reforms.
