President Tinubu Implements Cost-Cutting Measures to Reduce Governance Expenses.
President Bola Tinubu has announced new directives aimed at minimising the cost of governance in Nigeria, significantly limiting the number of vehicles and security personnel assigned to federal officials.
In a statement issued today, the President has restricted Ministers, Ministers of State, and Heads of Federal Government Agencies to a maximum of three vehicles in their official convoys. Furthermore, no additional vehicles will be provided for their transportation.
This latest measure is part of President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to reduce government expenditure. Earlier this year, he made notable changes to his entourage during foreign and local trips, cutting the number of officials accompanying him from 50 to 20 for international engagements and from 25 for domestic journeys. Similarly, the Vice President’s entourage was reduced to five officials for foreign trips and 15 for local ones.
Additionally, today’s directive limits each minister and agency head to a maximum of five security personnel, which will include four police officers and one officer from the Department of State Services (DSS). No extra security personnel will be permitted.
In a bid to streamline security operations further, President Tinubu has instructed the National Security Adviser to collaborate with Military, Paramilitary, and Security Agencies to assess and implement reductions in vehicle and security personnel deployments.
These new measures highlight the President’s commitment to responsible governance and fiscal prudence, with all affected officials expected to comply immediately, emphasising the urgency of these changes.
