In a statement released on Wednesday via his official social media handle, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has conveyed heartfelt condolences to the residents of Ondo State in the wake of the unfortunate demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Finitri disclosed this in a post on his X handle on Wednesday.

He wrote, “I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Ondo State on the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu SAN. “His legacy will be remembered, and my thoughts are with his family and the entire Ondo State during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of his Ondo State counterpart, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, characterizing his passing as a significant loss to the nation, particularly Ondo State.

In a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu acknowledged Akeredolu’s profound influence on Ondo State, the South-West region, and Nigeria as a whole. The statement conveyed condolences to Ondo State Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s widow, Dr. Betty Akeredolu, and the entire family and friends of the late governor.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also extended sympathy to the people of Ondo State, specifically the residents of Owo, mourning the loss of their esteemed son. He prayed for divine strength to help them cope with the irreparable loss.

Describing Akeredolu’s death as a monumental setback for the country, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the positive contributions made by the deceased in the fields of judiciary and governance, both in Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole.

The statement quoted Governor Sanwo-Olu as saying, “On behalf of the Government and people of Lagos State, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu over the death of the Ondo State Governor.”

He added, “The death of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is a colossal loss to the country, particularly the people of Ondo State. He made lots of impactful contributions during his lifetime to the growth and development of Nigeria, first as a lawyer and later as a two-term governor.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by praying for eternal rest for Akeredolu and strength for his family, friends, associates, and the people of Ondo State to bear the loss.

President Bola Tinubu paid tribute

President Bola Tinubu paid tribute to the late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, expressing deep sorrow and describing him as a fearless fighter, brother, confidant, and political soulmate. In a personally signed statement, Tinubu mourned the passing of Governor Akeredolu, highlighting his commitment to truth, the masses, and service.

Tinubu emphasized Akeredolu’s role as a man of ideas and action, noting that during his six-year tenure as the Executive Governor of Ondo State, Akeredolu served with absolute loyalty, dedication, and forthrightness. The President mourned the untimely departure of Akeredolu, who succumbed to prostate cancer at the age of 67.

The announcement of Governor Akeredolu’s death was made by the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, who stated that he peacefully departed in the early hours of the day.

In his tribute titled “I mourn my fearless brother, Rotimi Akeredolu,” Tinubu conveyed condolences to Akeredolu’s family, particularly his wife, Betty, and Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He pledged to honor Akeredolu’s memory and ensure that his legacy of service is never forgotten.

Expressing grief and sadness, Tinubu acknowledged the impact of Akeredolu’s death on the All Progressives Congress (APC), and the progressive family, describing it as a blow that diminishes the political landscape. He urged Aiyedatiwa, Akeredolu’s successor, to hold steadfast to the vision of governance left by the departed leader.
