President Tinubu Lauds Wike’s Performance, Explains FCT Exit From TSA.

President Bola Tinubu has revealed that his administration removed the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to accelerate development and increase residents’ participation in governance. Speaking during a Sallah homage at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu also commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for his outstanding performance, expressing confidence that the achievements in the capital would strengthen the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

The President explained that the bureaucratic constraints of the TSA were slowing infrastructure growth in the FCT, necessitating a review to drive progress. He noted that since the FCT’s exemption from the TSA, there had been rapid improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, and security.

Wike’s Role in Transforming the FCT

Highlighting Wike’s contributions, Tinubu recalled how the Minister persuaded him to approve the removal of the FCT from TSA restrictions. “Everything started changing rapidly. I started seeing the opening up of rural areas, the resuscitation of abandoned projects, and the completion of the Vice President’s official residence that had been left for years. Healthcare centres were rehabilitated, school facilities were upgraded, and furniture was provided,” Tinubu stated.

He praised Wike for streamlining the FCT’s public service and ensuring civil servants could aspire to leadership positions. “We wouldn’t have been able to celebrate without the progressive ideas you brought to the FCT. Now, we can proudly acknowledge the transformation,” he added.

Commitment to Abuja’s Development

Describing the visit as historic, Wike reaffirmed his loyalty to the President and pledged to oversee the completion of various projects in the FCT. “This is the first time FCT residents have the opportunity to extend our greetings to you in person during this blessed period. We are genuinely delighted to be here,” he said.

Tinubu, in turn, hailed Wike as “Mr Infrastructure” and outlined the numerous projects completed under his leadership, which have significantly improved the lives of Abuja residents. He also recalled a humorous exchange with Wike regarding the TSA, joking that the minister’s proposal could have cost him his job.

With the continued collaboration between the presidency and the FCT administration, Tinubu assured Nigerians that Abuja would witness sustained development, ensuring a better quality of life for all residents.
