Rafael Nadal Withdraws from US Open 2024.
Rafael Nadal has announced his withdrawal from this month’s US Open, stating that he would not be able to give “100%” at this time. The decision comes after his participation in the Paris Olympics, where he was defeated by Novak Djokovic in the singles competition and reached the doubles quarter-finals alongside Carlos Alcaraz.
Nadal, who has only competed in the US Open once since 2019, did not specify any particular injury or health issue as the reason for his withdrawal. The 38-year-old Spanish tennis legend made the announcement on his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter), expressing his regret over missing the tournament.
“The US Open is a place where I have amazing memories,” Nadal wrote. “I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe.” Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles, including four US Open championships, emphasised his fondness for the event.
Although he will not be participating in the US Open, Nadal indicated that he still plans to compete in the Laver Cup in Berlin this September.
Earlier this year, Nadal withdrew from the Australian Open due to injury and skipped Wimbledon to focus on the Paris Olympics. While he had hinted at a potential retirement later this year, Nadal mentioned before the French Open that it was not certain if that would be his final appearance at Roland Garros.
