Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has extended its energy security and industrialisation campaign to the University of Ibadan, reaffirming its commitment to education, youth empowerment and community development.
The engagement took place during the institution’s alumni homecoming event, where the company outlined its vision for a more energy secure Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Renaissance, Tony Attah, emphasised that Nigeria’s economic progress depends on eliminating energy poverty and embracing sustainability while fully utilising the nation’s abundant oil and gas resources. He stressed that energy and economic prosperity are closely linked, adding that improved energy security would create “economic opportunities with the potential to transform the lives of millions of Nigerians.”
Attah, who delivered the Distinguished Alumni Lecture titled Energy, Security and Economic Sustainability: The Role of Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector in National Development, noted that Renaissance was established to help reposition Nigeria at the centre of Africa’s development and industrialisation. He described the company as “a child of necessity” designed to lead efforts that address long standing challenges in the energy sector.
According to him, Renaissance is determined to work with both private and public sector stakeholders to confront the persistent issue of energy poverty. “With Renaissance, it’s a new beginning in Nigeria and we are focused on just what we need to do to rally the necessary support from private and government stakeholders,” Attah said.
As part of the homecoming activities, a state of the art synthetic mini football pitch was inaugurated within the university. The project was donated by Renaissance and its joint venture partners NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies and Agip Energy and Natural Resources as part of their support for youth development.
Attah described the facility, named the Renaissance JV Arena, as a lasting symbol of excellence, vision and commitment to community development. He said the contribution reflects the joint venture partners’ dedication to empowering young people and fostering a more vibrant university environment.
