Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has advised Nigerians living in the United States with revoked or expired visas to return home immediately to avoid possible arrest under US President Donald Trump’s administration.
His warning comes amid increasing concerns about immigration crackdowns affecting Nigerians abroad.
Sani cautioned that Nigerians with invalid documents or unresolved immigration issues are at serious risk due to the strict enforcement approach currently adopted by US authorities. He noted that the situation could worsen, making it unsafe for affected Nigerians to continue staying illegally in the country.
Speaking in a post on his social media page, Shehu Sani encouraged those affected to return voluntarily rather than wait to be deported or imprisoned. According to him, returning home on their own terms would save them from embarrassment and harsh legal consequences.
He said: “If your visa was revoked, please return home before Donald Trump arrests you. Don’t allow them to deport or jail you before you come back; use the last flight available.”
The former senator stressed that the warning should not be ignored, as the US government has already intensified immigration enforcement. He said it was better for affected Nigerians to return with dignity than be forced out of the country.
His caution has generated reactions among Nigerians, especially those with family members overseas, with many expressing concern over the increasing number of visa-related cases involving Nigerians in the US.
