Rivers State Administrator Seeks Legislative Backing To Boost Development Efforts.

The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok Ete Ekwe Ibas, has appealed for legislative support to enable his administration to successfully implement key developmental initiatives aimed at improving the lives of citizens and strengthening the state’s economy.

Ibas made the appeal on Friday when he received the Senate Committee on Works, led by its Chairman, Senator Barinada Mpigi, during a courtesy visit to Government House in Port Harcourt. The committee was accompanied by a delegation from Julius Berger Nigeria PLC, headed by the company’s Managing Director, Dr Peer Lubasch.

The Administrator highlighted the importance of the visit, describing it as a reflection of the National Assembly’s commitment to the progress and well-being of Rivers State and its people.

He outlined his administration’s priorities, which include guaranteeing uninterrupted socioeconomic activities and delivering essential infrastructure that will enhance economic growth, improve access to services, and ensure a higher standard of living for residents.

“As we move forward with these initiatives, we need your continued support to help us secure the necessary resources and legislative backing to bring them to fruition,” Ibas said. “Your partnership is critical to our success in ensuring that Rivers State remains on the path of progress and enduring peace for future generations.”

He noted that Rivers State, often referred to as the treasure base of the nation, is a vital economic hub with strategic infrastructure such as roads, bridges, ports, oil and gas installations, refineries, and a petrochemical plant. However, he acknowledged that like many other states, Rivers faces significant challenges in maintaining and expanding its infrastructure due to limited resources.

The Administrator called for stronger federal support, particularly in terms of financing and expediting the execution of federal projects within the state. He added that the ongoing infrastructural projects require sustained advocacy and support from the National Assembly to ensure their timely and successful completion.

“You have listed most of the projects that are ongoing presently. These include financial backing and the facilitation of speedy execution of federal projects that will contribute to our state’s growth,” he said.

“Your continued advocacy within the National Assembly will be instrumental in ensuring that Rivers State receives the attention and resources needed to succeed.”

Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibas also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and addressing infrastructure deficits, stating that these remain critical to the state’s long-term development goals.
