Carlos Alcaraz Triumphs in Five-Set Thriller to Win French Open Title.

Carlos Alcaraz, at just 21 years old, made history on Sunday by defeating Alexander Zverev in a thrilling five-set French Open final, becoming the youngest man to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces. The Spaniard showcased remarkable resilience, battling cramps and a 2-1 deficit in sets to emerge victorious with a 6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 win after four hours and 19 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier.

This latest victory adds the Roland Garros crown to Alcaraz’s growing list of achievements, which includes last year’s Wimbledon title against Novak Djokovic and the 2022 US Open. With this win, he will head to the Australian Open next year with the chance to become the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam.

Fourth seed Alexander Zverev, who recently settled a court case in Germany over domestic abuse allegations, was left waiting for his maiden major title. The 27-year-old had previously lost his only other Grand Slam final in five sets, when he blew a two-set lead against Dominic Thiem at the 2020 US Open. Despite high hopes of finally breaking through, Zverev fell short in the crucial moments, allowing Alcaraz to level their head-to-head record at 5-5.

Alcaraz, who expressed his desire to join the list of illustrious Spanish champions, including his idol Rafael Nadal, in winning the Roland Garros title, celebrated his monumental achievement by collapsing to the clay in disbelief. He becomes the eighth Spanish champion at the French Open, cementing his place among the sport’s elite.

Reflecting on his journey, Alcaraz said, “I wanted to join the list of men’s players from my country, including my idol Rafael Nadal, to win the Roland Garros title. This is a dream come true.”
