Russia has introduced a new decree allowing foreign nationals who oppose Western liberal values to apply for temporary residence more easily.
Signed by President Vladimir Putin, the decree aims to attract individuals from countries with differing “spiritual and moral values” compared to those promoted by Western nations.
Starting next month, Russia will begin issuing three-month visas through an expedited and simplified process. This new policy allows applicants to bypass the usual requirements of demonstrating knowledge of the Russian language, history, and laws. Instead, applicants can apply based on their rejection of what Russia describes as “destructive neoliberal ideals” prevalent in their home countries.
The Russian government plans to release a list of countries eligible for this exception, further clarifying which nationals can benefit from this policy.
The decree has been met with praise from some far-right figures and online influencers who have long admired Russia’s stance against Western liberalism. Notable personalities, including former President Donald Trump and ex-Fox News host Tucker Carlson, have previously expressed positive views about Russia, highlighting its contrast with Western values.
President Putin’s rhetoric has consistently criticized the West for its perceived moral decay, with his speeches condemning “satanic” Western ideals and defending “traditional” values.
