Russia Launches Major Missile Strikes On Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure

Russia Launches Major Missile Strikes On Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure.

Russia has unleashed a significant missile attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, marking the second such offensive this month. Ukraine’s Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, confirmed the widespread strikes, which have led to emergency power outages across the country.

“Attacks on energy facilities are taking place all over Ukraine,” Halushchenko said, urging residents to seek shelter and stay updated via official channels. The national energy operator, Ukrenergo, has implemented emergency power cuts to minimise strain on the grid.

Explosions were reported in multiple regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Lutsk, and Odesa. In north-western Ukraine, Lutsk mayor Ihor Polishchuk confirmed power outages that have disrupted trams and other services, while in Rivne, over 280,000 people are without electricity.

The strikes follow warnings from Ukrainian officials that Russia had been stockpiling cruise and ballistic missiles for coordinated attacks aimed at crippling the energy sector.

With winter temperatures dropping and snow already falling in parts of Ukraine, the attacks pose a significant humanitarian threat. Ukraine’s air defence systems are active in Kyiv and other regions, with officials working to minimise damage.

Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine’s parliamentary commissioner for human rights, condemned the strikes, stating, “The attacks make no military sense; they are aimed at intimidating civilians and creating a humanitarian crisis.”

The missile strikes come amid escalating hostilities between the two nations. Recent reports indicate that Russia launched over 1,500 strikes on Ukrainian regions last week, while Ukraine has targeted Russian oil depots and other infrastructure.

This latest offensive underscores the intensity of the conflict as Ukraine braces for a challenging winter, with its energy grid under repeated assault. Authorities continue to call for resilience and international support as they address the ongoing crisis.
