Russian Drone Strike On Ukrainian Workers’ Bus Claims Nine Lives, Dozens Injured

Russian Drone Strike On Ukrainian Workers’ Bus Claims Nine Lives, Dozens Injured.

A Russian drone strike early on Wednesday morning has claimed the lives of at least nine people and injured 30 others after targeting a bus carrying workers in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, according to regional officials.

The attack took place in the city of Marganets, located around 10 kilometres from the front line. Sergiy Lysak, the governor of the region, confirmed the fatalities in a post on Telegram and said the number of injured continued to rise as emergency services responded to the incident.

Images shared by Governor Lysak showed the devastating aftermath: a bus with a gaping hole in its roof, bloodstains, and shattered glass covering the floor, bearing witness to the ferocity of the strike.

“The enemy attack took nine lives,” Lysak wrote, describing the situation as dire. “The number of wounded is constantly growing. As of now, there are 30 of them.”

The strike on Marganets formed part of a broader wave of overnight Russian drone assaults. Ukraine’s air force reported that over 100 drones were launched at various parts of the country from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

Blazes were reported in multiple regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava and Odesa, as Ukrainian emergency services worked to contain the damage and tend to the wounded.

Meanwhile, in Russia’s Belgorod region, authorities said one person was wounded as a result of Ukrainian shelling. Cross-border attacks have intensified in recent months as the conflict, now into its third year, continues to escalate.

The war, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, has led to tens of thousands of casualties and severely strained Russia’s relations with Western nations, leading to what many observers call the most serious geopolitical crisis since the Cold War.

Plans for Ukraine peace talks involving foreign ministers from various countries, scheduled to take place in London on Wednesday, were postponed in light of the ongoing hostilities.

As both sides brace for further confrontation, the international community continues to call for restraint and renewed efforts toward a lasting resolution.
