Russian Missile Attack Kills Four In Zelensky’s Home Town.
A Russian missile strike on a hotel in Kryvyi Rih, the home town of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, has killed four people and left more than 30 others injured.
The attack, which took place just hours before Zelensky’s scheduled summit with European leaders in Brussels, also damaged several civilian structures around the hotel.
In a statement on his Telegram channel, Zelensky revealed that volunteers from a humanitarian organisation, including US and British citizens, had been staying at the hotel but managed to escape before the strike.
“Ballistic missiles hit an ordinary hotel. Just before the strike, volunteers from a humanitarian organisation – citizens of Ukraine, the United States, and Britain – checked into the hotel,” he wrote. “They survived because they managed to get down from their rooms. But, unfortunately, four people were killed in the attack.”
He confirmed that all the injured received medical assistance, while emergency responders continued to work at the scene.
The attack comes amid growing uncertainty over international support for Ukraine. On Monday, the United States suspended intelligence sharing and military aid, preventing even pre-approved equipment stationed in Poland from crossing into Ukraine. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron urged Europe to prepare for the possibility that US support might wane.
“I want to believe the US will stay at our side, but we must be ready if that is not the case,” Macron said.
As Zelensky prepares for high-level talks in Brussels, the missile strike serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing conflict, with the Ukrainian leader calling for sustained pressure on Russia to end the war and attacks on civilians.
