Lecce Fires Manager Roberto D’Aversa for On-Field Incident
Lecce has parted ways with manager Roberto D’Aversa following an altercation with Verona striker Thomas Henry after Sunday’s Serie A match, which ended in a 1-0 defeat.
The incident occurred after the final whistle when tempers flared, resulting in both D’Aversa, 48, and Henry receiving red cards.
Speaking after the game at Stadio Via del Mare, D’Aversa admitted his actions were “inexcusable.”
On Monday, Lecce announced D’Aversa’s dismissal, attributing it to “the events that occurred at the end of the Lecce-Verona match.”
The loss against Verona pushed Lecce down to 15th place in Serie A, just two spots above the relegation zone, with a slim one-point margin.
Lecce’s recent form has been concerning, with just one win in their last 12 league fixtures, resulting in nine losses during that period.
D’Aversa was appointed last summer to replace Marco Baroni and had previously managed Virtus Lanciano, Parma, and Sampdoria.
